An Amazing Night for Celtic Music Fans

Six time Grammy Award winners, The Chieftains are the finest practitioners of traditional Irish music in the world. They will appear on July 19 at the Surrey Fusion Festival.

VANCOUVER - The Chieftains are truly one of the best Celtic bands in the world. This summer, local audiences will have a chance to see these internationally renown musicians perform live at the Surrey Fusion Festival on the evening of July 19.

Other featured headline acts at the Festival include The Cottars, The Step Crew, Nathan, and Wheat in the Barley - an amazing line-up for Celtic music fans.

The Cottars are Cape Breton's fastest rising Celtic band. This award-winning foursome is led by teenagers Ciarán and Fiona MacGillivray.

Both MacGillivrays sing and stepdance, and each is a multi-instrumentalist - playing piano, guitar, tin whistle, bouzouki, flute, bodhrán, and Celtic harp. The siblings are known on three continents for their show-stopping arrangement of The Cottars' anthem, The Briar & The Rose.

They will be accompanied by Claire Pettit who is also a gifted instrumentalist, singer, composer and dancer. Accomplished on both the violin and viola, she has studied traditional Cape Breton fiddling with several of the Island's legendary masters.

The fourth member of The Cottars is Bruce Timmons, one of the most respected accompanists in the Maritimes today.

Founded in Toronto, The Step Crew is an amazing troupe of Irish dancers featuring original cast members from Riverdance, and incorporates both music and dance into their high energy sets.

Surrey Fusion Festival takes place July 18 to 20 at Surrey's magnificent new urban park Holland Park located at King George Highway and Old Yale Road.

THE COTTARS from Cape Breton features siblings Ciarán and Fiona MacGillivray, Claire Pettit, and Bruce Timmons.

It will be the largest multicultural event in Surrey's history with over 60,000 people projected to attend the free outdoor festival.

The festival will bring together many distinct cultural heritages represented by ethnic and community groups hosting pavilions to present the music, food, costume and dance of their country of origin.

Multicultural dancers and ethnic performers will provide living colour on three additional Pavilion Stages. Three full days of amazing music, food and culture will ensure this is a festival to remember.
