My penchant for murder mysteries is usually confined to dramatizations. However having just recently come across the work of Rhys Bowen and the Molly Murphy Mysteries, this might all change.

In Bowen's recent novel, In Dublin's Fair City, Molly Murphy, whose most enchanting feature is her feisty character, takes on yet another adventure. This is the sixth in a series.

Molly is a young detective working in New York in the early 1900s. Originally from County Mayo but driven out of Ireland under a dark cloud, Molly plans to return to her native land, hoping to keep a low profile. She's been hired by an Irish American impresario to go back to the old sod to locate his sister, left behind during the famine years some half century earlier.

During her voyage across she unwittingly becomes involved in a deadly game. The end result is a dead woman in her cabin and a famous Irish actress vanishing into thin air.

When Molly finally arrives in Dublin she soon discovers a cache of rifles inside luggage she has become responsible for. This drags her into a dangerous journey amid the political struggle for freedom in Ireland.

Bowen has a knack for creating a strong persona in Molly. She brings her readers through a limitless number of twists and turns sure to grip you from beginning to end.

Rhys Bowen was born in England but now lives in California. Visit her website at: jqh.home.netcom.com to view her extensive writing collection.
