Gaberlunzie Will Entertain at the 2008 B.C. Highland Games

VANCOUVER - The annual B.C. Highland Games are always held on the last Saturday in June, at the Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam, (formerly the Coquitlam Town Centre Stadium). The games attract over 10,000 people and this year B.C.'s largest Highland Games will take place on June 28.

Aileen MacLeod has been booking the mainstage entertainment for the past 16 years at the Games.

Last year Scotland's Alexander Brothers were the mainstage entertainers. The hugely popular duo provided some exceptional entertainment to their loyal fans. And not to be outdone this year, Aileen has booked another very popular duo from Scotland - Gaberlunzie.

Aileen MacLeod said, "For many years we've talked about bringing in Gaberlunzie for the Games. They are able to provide that traditional Scottish folk music that's hard to find here. It's also the Scottish stories and the patter and the humour that they bring to the stage. We're really excited about having them here this year."

The opening act on the mainstage is The Little Mountain Brass Band. There will also be entertainment by the fabulous Coast String Fiddlers from Robert's Creek, B.C. This group is a mixture of all ages who even do step-dancing as well.

Also featured on the mainstage this year will be Fiona Lee who is the World Junior Highland Dancing Champion, along with the class that she competes in.

Aileen said, "Along with the cream of the crop in Highland dancing, we will also have Irish dancers."

"This year, we're going to feature both the Gaberlunzie and the Coast String Fiddlers on both the mainstage and in the beer tent as well. We have found that there is a younger audience in the beer tent than in the stands at the mainstage and the audience in the beer tent tends to stay for the day. So, we've decided to take the entertainment to them.

"It also provides an opportunity for the pipe bands to come into the beer tent in the evening to hear the entertainment, since they're too busy during the day."
